THE GAME
PHOTOSERIESWhen I and my colleague Eefje Blankevoort embarked on the project 'The Game' as part of the transmedia Shadow Game, one of our first works was a journalistic series in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Images of teenagers fleeing in their sleeping places: tents in muddy fields and in abandoned buildings.
It was a decent series that was published in De Volkskrant. However, did we not confirm the existing image of helpless people with this? What we actually wanted was to portray these teenagers in all their diversity and give them control over their own story and the image created of them. We reconsidered the project and decided to tell a different story in the new photography project called 'A New Beginning.'
