PHOTO SERIESWhile conducting my research on image representation and exploring the system of our visual memory, I decided to intervene in that memory as a visual artist. This time, my focus shifted away from the media and towards the museum world, collections, and archives.
I was awarded the Stipendium Schiedams Water and, as part of this grant, created a series of family portraits of Schiedam residents with Turkish backgrounds. These portraits represent a facet of out current image culture that is absent in our collections and archives.

This series of portraits was jointly acquired by the Stedelijk Museum Schiedam and the Gemeentearchief Schiedam (Municipal Archives Schiedam).

During the second evening, 'The new image creators,' we sought inspiration. We explored initiatives, image banks, magazines, or (news) organizations actively working towards a more representative image culture. We also examined how other media and creative disciplines use images and what examples journalistic media can follow.
